From 1 February to 3 June 2018 the MUDEC-Museum of Cultures of Milan celebrates Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954) with a large and new retrospective. An opportunity to finally see all the works coming from the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico City and the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection, the two most important and largest collections of Frida Kahlo in the world, and with a single exhibition venue after 15 years. the participation of authoritative international museums that will lend some of the masterpieces of the Mexican artist never seen in our country.
It will be an exhibition “ of rupture ” compared to all the exhibitions so far proposed in recent years, thanks to the Archive of Casa Azul, discovered in 2007, the subject of studies carried out by the exhibition curator Diego Sileo. From the results of this research, which will propose new interpretations of the Mexican artist, and the analysis of the works chosen for the exhibition, the retrospective presented at MUDEC outlines an unprecedented plot around Frida Kahlo, reconsidering the figure “ beyond the myth “, as the exhibition title tells.
