In the heart of Villa Borghese is the Silvano Toti Globe Theater, inaugurated in 2003 thanks to the Silvano Toti Foundation based on an idea of Gigi Proietti, which also takes care of the artistic direction. The theatre respects the shape of the original theater built in London in 1599 with the covered stage that extends to the public area and surrounded by stages on three levels and is entirely made of oak as the original one.
Globe Theatre of Rome 2018 should not be considered an imitation of the Globe of London, infact there is no copy of the original project. This is a new project in a new place, all Italian, in line with our safety regulations, in order to guarantee the public the ideal conditions to watch the shows in programming.
The spectators can take place both on the terraces (above the stage) and in the parterre. Sitting there is a highly suggestive experience. In spite of a slight inconvenience-you sit on the ground on the tufa blocks of the pavement-in the parterre you watch the show closely, the actors pass by the spectators and often the public is involved by the theater companies. If you want to book the parterre, it is advisable to bring pillows!
The repertoire is the traditional Elizabethan one, although the programming often includes experimental and innovative works. See below what the summer program of the Globe Theatre of Rome 2018 offers.
